Suleman Fertility Doctor Under Investigation

When Nadya Suleman announced to the world that she had given birth to octoplets, the medical world immediately responded. In extreme cases, some infertile women will have up to six embryos implanted in their uteri in the hopes that a few of them will survive. However, Dr. Michael Kamrava apparently implanted eight embryos into the womb of Nadya Suleman. Serious medical problems can occur as a result of multiple births, so medical professionals that perform in virtro fertilization take extreme care.

Considering Suleman’s age, most fertility specialists agree that she should have been implanted with no more than three embryos. Suleman claims that her doctor implanted her with six embryos and that two of them split, creating two sets of twins. Even if her claims are true, the Medical Board of California is investigating. Some of the things that fertility doctors must consider before performing in virtro fertilization include the age of the mother as well as family size and marital status. Suleman was 32 years old, unmarried and had six children before her octuplets were born. The actions of Dr. Kamrava have been questioned by both ethicists and medical professionals.

Although Suleman survivors on welfare benefits she claims that she was able to pay for the procedure with money that she has saved. Child protective services as well as California state officials have been investigating her state for possible fraud and child neglect. As Suleman’s children were born under weight they will remain at the hospital until they are healthy enough to be sent home.
