Following the death of pop star Michael Jackson, many outraged members of the medical profession called for the revocation of Dr. Conrad Murray’s medical license. Initial toxicology reports indicated that Jackson died of an apparent drug overdose. Some of these prescription drugs were administered intravenously by Dr. Murray. After an extensive investigation, the California Medical Board decided to let Dr. Murray retain his license to practice. Although Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with manslaughter, the California Medical Board does not believe that there is enough evidence to conclusively prove that he acted unethically or irresponsibly.
Many people, including members of Jackson’s family have questioned how the late musician was able to be prescribed so many different medications. Jackson has long suffered from a number of medical conditions, however, none were life threatening. The events surrounding Michael Jackson’s death remain hazy, but it is known that Dr. Murray was present when he went into cardiac arrest. According to police records, Jackson flat-lined shortly after he was given a routine cocktail of medicines. There was a significant delay between resuscitation efforts and when emergency services were requested. Shortly after Jackson was admitted to a local hospital he was pronounced deceased.
Before Jackson died, he was rehearsing for a world-wide concert tour. Some of his associates reported that he appeared to be emaciated and lacked energy. Others have given conflicting statements. Dr. Murray’s attorney can use the report issued by the California Medical Board as evidence in his client’s upcoming manslaughter trial.
